On June 10, 2019, the Summit Foundation for Refugee and Displaced Affairs released three Kurdish Iraqi families, who were imprisoned in a Turkish airport prison.

With the help of the Turkish Directorate of Immigration and airport police, the representation of the Summit Foundation in Turkey managed to release 3 Iraqi Kurdish families who were arrested and imprisoned in Istanbul airport jail for trying to illegally cross the border.

The released families were returned to Iraq through Sulaimani airport on the same day.

According to the representation of the Summit Foundation in Turkey, many Iraqis have recently tried to migrate using fake passports or documents. It is evident that this way is becoming more popular although it is highly risky as it is easily caught.

In the first half of this year, hundreds of imprisoned Iraqis have been released with the help and support of the Summit Foundation from the Turkish prisons.
